For those anxiously awaiting the Lynx Blue Line Extension that will extend from Uptown Charlotte to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte [UNCC] there is more good news on the way.
On Tuesday, Jan. 16, the Charlotte City Council approved the first phase of development of an “entertainment district” between I-85 and the Lynx Light Rail [think IKEA off of University City Blvd]. That means that added attractions for fun will be just a hop, skip and a jump away from the light rail, a detail that many Charlotteans feel the city is lacking.
Said to anchor this entertainment district is TopGolf, an indoor golfing center that has grown tremendously in popularity over the last few years as a place to eat and play.
This will be Charlotte’s second location, the first in Southwest Charlotte off of I-485.
With TopGolf anchoring the development other additions being floated are restaurants, breweries, hotels and a bowling alley.
“The proposed entertainment district will create a dynamic destination attraction and create hundreds of jobs,” Council Member Greg Phipps told the Charlotte Business Journal.
